Feeds I Read Page | Other Feedly Friday Posts
Welcome to my continuing series of posts where I am going to highlight one or two feeds I follow in my Feedly feeds. Technology feeds only, though I keep up with other things like theme park news in there too.
Feedly is an RSS reader that you can use that is free for a very reasonable number of RSS feeds. It is the best way to follow a large number of websites and see what is new.
This week I want to highlight a feed I promise myself monthly that “this month is going to the be month I participate again.” Missing this posting opportunity is almost as regular as it is for me to notice it.
T-SQL Tuesday
T-SQL Tuesday is a monthly tradition for BBC many in the SQL Community. It is basically a way to help people with a blog idea once a month that is typically TSQL focused in some way. (It is not always directly related, this month’s topic was professional development oriented. But that is a skill TSQL programmers need, so it fair game. PostgreSQL topics would be something for PGSQL Phriday (a site inspired by TSQL Tuesday, that definitely had to be on Fridays!)
It has been around for years, and was created by Adam Machanic who passed the mantle to Steve Jones (who was the focus of my second blog in this series) as he moved away from the SQL community (side note: GREAT to see Adam back more these days, and he is speaking at the PASS Summit this year).
It is based on a simple concept, someone hosts each month on the first Tuesday of the month. The host needs to have participated twice and not hosted in 2 years.) They pick a topic and post an invitation. Then anyone who wants to, writes a blog on that topic. The host reads the posts and then puts out a summary.
I have known about it a long time, but didn’t participate that one much for years (Too lazy or too busy…let’s say the latter). It is something I really started to enjoy when I was doing my turns curating the SQL Server Central Database Weekly newsletter. Whenever my week matched up with the second week of the month, there were always a plethora of posts that were listed (and I read a good number of them and got a bit hooked on the idea.)
This inspired me to finally host back in host back in July of 2024,
It is extremely easy to participate. Write a blog and link back to the invitation. Bein ghte host is a bit more involved, but it really isn’t that much work. You cand find the rules here on the T-SQL Tuesday site.
If you don’t follow, follow. If you haven’t participated, participate. And if you have participated host. And if you want to remember, make yourself a calendar invite, on the first and second Tuesday of each month. And add their RSS feed to your reader of choice. (It seems to have a few issues, but just seeing it in my feed should help remind me too!)
