Feeds I Read Page | Other Feedly Friday Posts
Welcome to my series of posts where I am going to highlight one or two feeds I follow in my Feedly feeds. Technology feeds only, though I keep up with other things like theme park news in there too.
Feedly is an RSS reader that you can use that is free for a very reasonable number of RSS feeds. It is the best way to follow a large number of websites and see what is new.
This week I am going to focus on a blog that hasn’t had but 1 post this year, or really any for the past 3 years. Why? Because this person is a freaking legend in the SQL Server community, especially with columnstore indexes. And even if you couldn’t see the big heading one line from here, you know you know who this is if you are on my blog to read about SQL Server code.
Niko Neugebauer – Nikoport
Nikoport.com is the place where the wonderful Niko Neugebauer once posted a 131 part series on columnstore indexes. (I though my series on RegEx that reached 8 posts this week was a lot!) If you don’t end up adding Niko’s blog to your reader, or if he never actually posts again, it is worth knowing about this series if you are a SQL Server programmer or DBA.
Niko hasn’t posted a lot lately, just a couple of posts this year, but whenever he posts, we should all listen. So, it was pretty exciting when I saw his LinkedIn post recently about Luck. Whether you believe the concept of luck being a thing in and of itself, just random thing, a cultural thing, or even a spiritual thing, it is definitely an interesting topic of how some people make it, and some don’t. (Sometimes not making it big is a blessing in and of itself.)
I have always felt it was a bit of all of those things, but the most important thing is that you apply yourself, be nice, honest, encouraging to others, and most of all real. then see what happens. Sometimes what you want is not what you need. Go check out Niko’s post on Luck here and put his blog on your feed and wait to see what he says next.
